dvd on tap: Matchstick Men [Ridley Scott]

Muvis Absentis Kamatis (or stuff i missed at the cineplex)
And for the 5th con-related (yes, Vegas is a con) movie in this set, we have Nicolas Cage transforming himself into Roy Waller, a obsessive-compulsive multi-phobic con artist plying his trade with his partner Frank (Sam Rockwell). Roy only eats canned tuna fish, swings his door three times before fully opening it, hates being in outdoors, and is overly-dependent on pills, that when he loses them, he goes overboard and manically cleans his house. Things turn upside down, when just before they put their biggest plan into motion, Roy's long-lost daughter Angela (Alison Lohman) walks into his life. Cage is already awesome taking on this tic-laden role, and his scenes on trying to bond with his daughter are absolute delights. Lohman, who was amazing in White Oleander, continues to hone her chameleon skills by playing a perky 14-year old when she's all of 23 (she actually makes the transition later in the film). Being a con movie, you know something bigger than the con they're dreaming up is going to happen - the film does involve you in its little foibles which leaves you somewhat unprepared for the con. Great jobs all around - Scott comes out with another winner.

"This is what i think of your fancy schmancy XDA II, you neurotic prick!"
