dvd on tap: Goodfellas [Martin Scorsese]

Actor's Studio
Possibly the greatest gangster movie since The Godfather (original and sequel), Goodfellas is an instant classic that will definitely stand the test of time. As crime dramas go, this chronicles a rise and fall - Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) grows up in a Brooklyn Mafia neighborhood and his ambitions of course, lean in climbing up that particular ladder. Liotta gives a terrific performance, but terrific performances are par for the course for Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. The latter's character, Tommy, in particular, is the kind of short-tempered goon who launches into a murderous rage at the slightest provocation, and Pesci does him Oscar-perfect. Though the movie may glorify the Mafia life, it is what it is, and Scorsese proves his mettle in the subject he knows best.

if you see these wiseguys hanging out at your local restaurant, run away.
