dvd on tap: Bringing Down The House [Adam Shankman]

BUST-A-GUT WEEK
Lawyer Peter Sanderson (Steve Martin), thinks he's meeting up with a fellow attorney for a nice dinner date at his house. Turns out his date is an escaped felon - an escaped female felon (Queen Latifah as Charlene). Apparently she had time inside to surf and trawl and chat up lawyers who may help her with her case. Yep, that's what happens. She then proceeds to rock the boat of his White Anglo-Saxon Upper Crust life, and he has to pretend she's the new nanny to keep up appearances to the uppity neighbors and his law firm. The best lines are owned by his trippin' colleague Howie (Eugene Levy), taking a liking to Charlene and talking hood with the best of 'em. The laughers are few and far in between - putting Steve Martin in a hiphop club seems forced. The comedy deliveries are still okay, though you feel Martin could have done better.

"And I'll tell you a secret ... I'm Harrison Ford's secret twin!"
