Muvis Absentis Kamatis (or stuff i missed at the cineplex)
TV impresario Chuck Barris (Sam Rockwell), producer of "The Dating Game" and "The Gong Show" during the 70s, leads a double life - by night, he is a CIA assassin. Or so he claims. The details of which have been extensively documented in his memoirs and adapted in this directorial debut by George Clooney. Clooney himself plays Jim Byrd, who allegedly recruits Barris as an independent CIA contractor. Barris never wanted anything more than to be in showbiz; that, and scoring with chicks. Until meeting up with Byrd, he was leading the charmed life, pitching TV shows to networks and having fun with his main squeeze Penny (Drew Barrymore). At the height of "The Dating Game's" popularity, winners were being awarded chaperoned trips to Cold War locales (such as West Berlin) to coincide with Barris' secret missions. Julia Roberts has a prominent role as another spy, while Rutger Hauer and Maggie Gyllenhaal make cameo appearances. Barris' life may have been colorful, but which is fact and which is fiction? Your guess is good as mine.
Ok, this is not the textbook way to meet your future wife.
