Muvis Absentis Kamatis (or stuff i missed at the cineplex)
Jake Vig (Edward Burns) is the leader of a group of experienced con artists. But in their last heist, they run afoul of mob boss Winston King (Dustin Hoffman) and get one of their friends killed. This sets them up for a bigger job which, despite the objections of his crewmates Miles (Brian Van Holt) and Gordo (Paul Giamatti), could set them up for life - or send them all six feet deep. Jake then recruits gorgeous petty thief Lily (Rachel Weisz), and proceeds to execute an intricate scam with twists and turns that will make even the most critical of scam movies smile (and even you might see where the plot was going beforehand). Burns, despite being a poor man's Ben Affleck (but at least he MARRIED The Girl, Bennifer!), is perfect as the suave and smooth-talking grifter, and the other supporting role players (Andy Garcia, Robert Forster, Donal Logue, Luis Guzman, and oh, look - a Morris Chestnut sighting) are no slouches either. Director Foley's biggest hit was probably Glengarry Glen Ross, but now he's back in the game. Not yet in the class of say, Ocean's Eleven or The Italian Job, but still smart, snappy, and thoroughly enjoyable.
"Listen, no offense, but i'm not so comfortable holding hands with the guy who played Tootsie."
