dvd on tap: The Devil's Advocate [Taylor Hackford]

SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES
I swear Keanu Reeves almost showed some emotion here. Almost. This guy's lucky - despite obvious lack of acting skills, he impossibly gets some of the most memorable roles in cinema (thank God for agents!). So, as hotshot Florida lawyer Kevin Lomax, he gets recruited by a powerful New York law firm headed by the devilishly-charismatic John Milton (done with guilty pleasure by Al Pacino). The move to high life has its initial thrills, as experienced by Kevin's wife Mary Ann (Charlize Theron in her breakout role), but things go downhill as supernatural events occur and Kevin is drawn more and more into defending the scum of the earth in the courtroom. Pacino definitely carries the film and delivers all the great quotables. In the end, Kevin has to beat the Devil in his own game - oh, the irony. Say, maybe Keanu made a deal with him to be so lucky?

"Acting skills?? Who needs acting skills?? I look great. And rich."
