despite taking the #1 spot for last weekend's movies, the slithering SOAP (Snakes on a Plane, for laymen) only banked $15M to barely beat Talladega Nights (another on the to-watch list). does this mean internet hype is as bad as trailer saturation to make a potential hit movie earn less than expected? SOAP neither had TV trailers nor the usual advanced screenings for critics. but the internet hype generated over the last few months was tsunami-c.
anyway, it was good enough with the hype, and notwithstanding the fact that it may have given terrorists another option to make our life miserable, it was quite a guilty pleasure to wish some nasty annoying people to be victimized by the CGI reptiles. you will have to suspend your disbelief in bursts, but it will be quite a ride anyway.
in other news, you know that this movie is exactly a template for real life, as suspected JonBenet killer John Mark Karr arrived safely today in L.A. (in business class though) from Bangkok. what they didn't tell us, was that "other interested parties" didn't want Karr to be blabbing his head off and getting into a media circus. so they set some snakes loose in that flight - but too bad, a Samuel Jackson-like character saved the day.
