OH, MY!: George Takei is boldly going where no Star Trek vet has gone before: out of the closet. The 68-year-old actor — who played chief helm officer Mr. Sulu in the original series — has confirmed that he is gay. He made the revelation in the current issue of Frontiers, a Los Angeles magazine covering the gay and lesbian community. Takei said he would have come out sooner were it not for Starfleet's "don't ask, don't tell" policy.
