Springsteen returns the favor to Bono by inducting the band. Bono did the same for the Boss when he was inducted in 199[forgot]. Bono recounted his star-struck meeting with Springsteen in an elevator, mentioning the fact that the Boss was dead drunk at the time. Nyahahahaa.. Bono did such a great job, the Boss then said if youre going to pick someone to give an induction speech for you, better pick an Irishman.

Gripe: The Pretenders were inducted the same year as U2. What, they share equal status? I mean, I like The Pretenders, but they were no U2. They shouldve been inducted much later.. same year as Culture Club. Nyahahahaa!!

ok, you are eligible for enshrining 25 years after your first recording (which of course requires you did something really spectacular within that span). Since the Pretenders came out with their first album at the same time as Bono & the boys (Grade III - go figure), they are already eligible. The Hall also needed to fulfill their "female-fronted band or female" quota. Boy George need not apply. nyhahahaha.

Bono inducts the Boss into the 1999 Hall of Fame

"At some point I remember riding in an elevator with gentleman Bruce, where he just stared straight ahead of himself, and completely ignored me. I was crushed. Only when he walked into the doors as they were opening, did I realize the impossible was happening. My God, Bruce Springsteen, the Buddha of my youth, is plastered! Drunk as a skunk! Pissed as a fart! I have to go back to the book of instructions, scratch the bit out about how you held yourself in public. By the way, that was a great relief."

That Bono sure has a way with words. Just like Bruce. So apt that they induct each other.
